Want to minimize your industrial green house expenses but maximize your convenience as well as versatile potential? Implement LED growing technology at all levels of your growing operation. You’ll enjoy huge energy savings, have more versatile lighting that can be positioned better in the greenhouse, and enjoy better growth than ever before.

LED grow lights are 80 percent more efficient than HPS or fluorescent lighting. If you are into commercial growing, LED lights allow you to do so without affecting your electric costs. You can amply light a 12 foot growing area with just a little more wattage than it takes to keep the porch light on at night. With no detectable carbon footprint, LED lights are better for the environment, requiring very little energy to produce a good deal of light for your plants.

Adding to their environmental benefits, LED grow lights also last considerably longer than any other grow light in the industry. Most lights need replaced every season. With LED growing technology, you can make a bulb produce good light for well over a decade. That’s why they are so ideal for growing. LED lights are built to last, adding bounty to many seasons of harvests for time to come.

Plus, they are very easy to mount since they don’t require a heavy ballast. All you need to do is suspend them from the ceiling above your plants. They are easy to attach to greenhouse walls through simple clamps. Light weight, LED lights are easy and simple to install.

In fact, you can install LED lights throughout the greenhouse with no professional wiring skills. Simply plug in the lights like any reading light. There’s no fire hazard or risk of electrical shock.

LED lights make the most potential of your greenhouse costs by providing the best light possible with very little energy. They allow you to do more in the greenhouse for less, revolutionizing the commercial growing industry.

Sick and Tired of Global Warming Scares

I often ask myself if global warming truly exists. I know the government and those in power like to scare the public on a regular basis. Once we get over one epidemic, another one shows its face. This seems to be a pattern. And I can’t help but think that perhaps “global warming” might be one of those terms the powerful came up with to scare and therefore control the powerless.

I had a professor in college that explained to us students that the earth has a weather pattern it goes through, a pattern that takes many decades to cycle. So none of us were even born or aware of the weather the last time we were at this point in the cycle. The earth, he said, goes through its colder years and its warmer years, its drier years and its wet years. And to sure this professor wasn’t full of it, a few of my classmates even looked up information in an almanac. And sure enough, the earth has seen some warm years.

The one part that does worry me, though, is this supposed hole in the ozone layer that’s getting bigger with time. I’m not a scientist, so I don’t know the exact terms, but “they” say this layer is thinning out and allowing the sun’s rays to torch the planet. But when I brought this up to my professor, he laughed at me and said that “hole in the ozone layer” is a joke. It’s not significant enough to cause any serious damage, he said.

So I continue to watch these television specials on the topic, and they show polar bears drowning and what not. And they give all these catastrophic facts, but how do they know these are the direct result of some made-up term that ordinary people like you and me can’t even fully understand.

I don’t know. I’m just playing devil’s advocate over here. Regardless if you believe our earth is slowly burning to a crisp or not, it’s good to question these types of things. Why believe everything “they” say?

Social Media Sparks Interest in Politics

We’ve entered a new era of world politics. Some of you may have noticed, and some may still be in the dark. But for the first time in decades, younger generations are getting involved in political issues, and not just domestically but abroad as well.

I first noticed this trend during the last U.S. presidential election. Barack Obama appealed to a broad range of people who previously felt underrepresented, including those classified as racial minorities and young adults. I never thought Obama would actually win the election; I didn’t give these groups much credit.

I was lucky enough to attend the presidential rally in Chicago’s Grant Park on Nov. 4, 2008, and no words can express my feelings of pride, relief, excitement, etc. The city was crowded with young people speaking up for their rights and beliefs. Prior to the election, I didn’t have a full understanding of Obama’s political views, but it made me happy just to know that this man sparked something within the young people in this country. Although they may have their differences, young adults put those aside to come together to support the Democratic candidate.

Months later, I noticed young people’s interest in politics outside the United States. Civil conflicts in nations throughout the world have existed for decades, but just recently I notice young people tapping into resources to find out more information about what exactly is going on overseas. Specifically, I can refer to the presidential election in Iran that took place on June 12, 2009. Incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was victorious running against three challengers. Several western nations expressed concern over alleged irregularities in voting, and protests in favor of candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi broke out in Iran. Situations like these would typically go unnoticed by young people in the United States, but due to social media, young people began paying more attention to political issues in other countries. And they’re spreading the word. It’s quite the phenomenon, and I don’t see this trend going away anytime soon.

I am thankful for social media because it’s making young people more aware.

Misconceptions of Liberal Values

Although I have very clear views and values, I detest labels and categories. I choose not to be labeled as a liberal or conservative, a Democrat or Republican. I know these categories are intended to simplify choices for U.S. citizens, but I feel they do more damage than good. They generalize people’s beliefs and in turn lead to even more political confusion among voters.

I will admit I probably side more with liberal politics, and that is why these generalizations have sparked some irritation in me. Ever since President Obama took office, I’ve heard so many inaccurate statements about liberal values. It seems that liberals are having to constantly defend themselves from conservative ignorance rather than focus their energies on real political matters.

Here’s a list of few of the many misconceptions of liberal politics:

1. Liberals are anti-family.
This view probably exists because liberals don’t conform to the conservative definition of family. Conservatives have identified what a family “should be,” but liberals support our right to define our own family structures.

2. Liberals are ant-religion.
It seems conservatives are close-minded when it comes to religion; they accept one dominant religion. There’s a reason church and state are separate in our country, and liberals aim to keep government out of religious matters.

3. Liberals are pro-abortion.
This is probably the one misconception that angers me the most. This is the reason why I don’t agree with labels. Just because one may not want to outlaw abortions doesn’t mean he or she is encouraging abortion. Liberals simply encourage the freedom to control one’s body. And to minimize the amount of abortions, they focus on early sex education and availability of contraception. Conservatives like to confuse this with promoting sexual intercourse at a young age. No, it just beats the alternative—children learning about sex on their own and not seeking support or education at home or in school.

Like I already stated, I am neither liberal nor conservative, and I know it may not seem so after reading my rant above. I simply want to live under my personal set of values, not those that have been defined for me by the powers that be. And that is where I disagree with conservative politics.

Get Legal Tax Advice

Tax audits are right up there with root canals, dog droppings, and certain members of Congress. Nobody looks forward to them, but they happen every day. It’s the job of the IRS. An audit is not an accusation, nor is it necessarily a reflection of anything you did. It also doesn’t have to be the end of the world. In fact, with the right tax advice, you just might end up getting a refund.

When you are facing an audit, IRS agents suspect that something doesn’t add up. Perhaps you took too many deductions and didn’t save all the receipts. Sometimes, the math doesn’t add up or you made estimations that seemed suspicious. Perhaps, you’re just self-employed, and the IRS knows that the returns of the self-employed generally reveal the most discrepancies.

The most important piece of advice to follow when your facing an audit is to first contact a legal tax attorney before ever speaking to the IRS or providing them any documentation. Most audits or IRS criminal investigations never go anywhere unless you say the wrong thing or provide improper documentation. When you are dealing with an attorney who knows the tax laws, he or she knows what to say and provide that’s directly in your best interest.

It’s also important to work with a tax attorney rather than a tax group. Communications and documents shared between a client and a tax group are subject to IRS review and can be used in court. Anything that takes place between the client and attorney, however, is subject to client-attorney protection and enjoys the right of privacy.

When deciding whom to audit, IRS agents estimate a person’s Discriminate Information Function system average. Using a secret equation, the IRS estimates how likely it is to find discrepancies that result in more money for the government if a return is filed. Large deductions, self-employment, and high income raise the greatest red flags for an audit, as the IRS figures it will likely get something for its effort.

There are ways to avoid a tax audit, and there are even ways to end up getting a refund after being audited. A certified tax attorney can help you with deductions you might not have been aware of, as well as prepare you to deal with an audit from the IRS.

Reverse Engineered from a Protoype

All engineers know that hands-on design is much easier than CAD conceptualization. Building a prototype and reverse engineering is often a much smarter way to design as well, since the prototype can be seen to work and then designed retroactively. But reverse engineering requires precision that is uncommon to human faculties, and for contoured, complex, or small objects, creating a 3d representation in a CAD environment can be a challenge – to say the least. By designing prototypes to have scanned in 3 dimensions, manufacturing and design companies can drastically reduce the time from design to functional prototype by working backwards and starting with the prototype. From there, in-house engineers or engineers employed by a 3D scanning company can help to reverse engineer the product and create specs and diagrams that would otherwise require shear foresight and creativity to get right on the first try. By building a prototype that works right away, and designing it retroactively, the costly trial & error of design is practically eliminated.

Assuming a product has already been designed – conventionally or reverse engineered from a prototype – manufacturing will commence and require hawkish eyes to make sure that finished goods meet their specifications. Even for parts manufactured entirely outside of human influence, errors in production are not uncommon, but also not easily detectable to the naked eye. One way to ensure that manmade and machine-made cogs alike are compliant with specifications is to employ contract inspection services that will analyze items coming off the line. With the use of advanced laser and 3d imaging, firms can see that the goods their customers receive conform with prototypes and CAD drawings, and will function properly. This, in turn, reduces the waste of defective products, improves product quality, reduces inspection (and thus time to market), which will translate into a better customer experience and higher profit margins for the businesses that employ technology for QA rather than fallible human eyes and measurements.

For the past twenty years, production has become more automated because automation is more cost-effective, more reliable, and faster. All three of these benefits translate to design and quality assurance processes when laser and three dimensional imaging are employed in the service of reverse engineering and contract inspection of finished goods. While the cost of 3D imaging technology is prohibitive for many firms, there are 3d imaging companies that specialize in translating prototypes to CAD design and manufacturing specifications and diagrams that can drastically improve the efficiency of firms’ engineering processes.

Cosmetic Dentists

As a male model and aspiring actor I needed to look the best that I possibly could. I spent long hours every day at the gym working hard to keep my body in top physical shape. I adhered to a strict diet and never drank alcohol. I also spent a lot of money on tanning, hair cuts, and products to guarantee that I always looked my best. I didn’t want to miss out on one opportunity. My agency constantly was sending me to test shoots and casting calls hoping that I would get my big break.

I was always self-conscious when a photographer would ask me to smile in a photo. My teeth were far from perfect; I had a huge gap right in between my two top front teeth. There was no way that I could get braces now though, I would miss out on modeling work for the next year. My agency suggested that I visit a cosmetic dentist to see if there was a quick fix to my problem. They gave me a list of prominent cosmetic dentists within the city and they offered to pay the bill for any work that I needed.

I really didn’t know a lot about cosmetic dentists or the procedures that they performed. I was under the impression that I would have to go to an orthodontist and have braces put on if I ever chose to have the gap between my teeth closed. I had no idea that cosmetic dentists could achieve this same result in one appointment.

After I made an appointment for a consultation I went to see what the cosmetic dentist had to say about my gap. She smiled at me and said that it would be an easy fix. The cosmetic dentist said that she could close the gap within a couple of hours. I was completely surprised. I was very anxious to have the procedure done.

The day of the procedure I was in great spirits. I couldn’t wait for my next photo shoot or casting call. I knew that this would make a huge difference in the number of jobs that I got. I always felt that I was never given speaking roles because of the appearance of my teeth. Having this procedure done was going to significantly change my life and provide me with the rewards that I had worked so hard for.

The smart way to grow

Ultraviolet light can harm plants when left to overexposure, making them more susceptible to disease as well as smaller and less healthy. Light from the sun comes in three forms, UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. Nearly all of the light that makes it through our greenhouse is in the form of UV-A, which is beneficial for plants and helps them grow.

However, a small amount of UV-B and UV-C does slip into our atmosphere. Global warming has intensified its heat, increasing the damaging effect it can have on your plants. UV-B damages plant tissue and can also lead to skin cancer. UV-C has the shortest wavelength and can also have a damaging effect on plants.

Really, plants don’t need too much UV light. Adjusting to just the right amount helps plants to grow their greenest. Artificial light provides more control, limiting the light “diet” of a plant so that it is not overexposed. Substituting natural light can be difficult, especially light that has the optimal wave frequency. Light Emitting Diodes (LED) make controlling the light frequency much easier

When it comes to artificial lights, LED plant lights provide the best light for plants to grow, using a wave frequency that is best naturally absorbed by the plants, instilling a healthy vibrancy.

LED plant lights are much more efficient than incandescent of fluorescent lamps because they provide the optimal wavelength while eliminating the damaging components of the light. They are also cheaper to use and take less energy, cutting down on your electric bill.

LED lights may be on the expensive side, but look at them as investments. The lights can last literally decades, so they will continue to produce long after traditional lights are rusting in your basement. Longer lasting lights means less in the landfill, which has great benefits to the environment. LED lights also don’t contain mercury, so they don’t poison the water supply.

The frequency of red, blue, yellow or green lights should be used depending on the type and size of the plants. Research what type of plants you are growing and what light goes best with them. Then adjust your LED lights to fit their needs. LED lights offer the benefit of control, so you can optimally strategize your growing techniques depending on your needs.
